Blog post 3:

1. Describe the Spaces for Public use in Raval Area. People, public spaces, stores and private areas. Take 4 photos representing three examples of culture: museums, open skate board areas, universities, cultural centers…

The Raval area in Barcelona is often filled with locals and tourists, creating a diverse and vibrant atmosphere. However, private residential areas within the neighborhood offer a more quiet and peaceful environment. Despite some issues with safety and crime in the past, the Raval area has undergone a significant revitalization in recent years, making it an increasingly popular destination for visitors to Barcelona.

2. Where is Raval placed in the City Map? Describe the area. The most expensive area of the core of Barcelona for public use. Show a map of this area.

The Raval area is a diverse neighborhood with a mix of public spaces, commercial areas, and private residences. It has recently undergone significant revitalization and has become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

3. Make a list of public buildings and explain its uses. What kind of people are the target of these buildings? Do you think this area was planned for youth?

1. Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) - A cultural center that hosts exhibitions, concerts, and other events related to contemporary art and culture.
2. Teatre Lliure - A theater that stages contemporary plays and performances by Catalan and international artists.
3. Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi - A gothic church located in the Raval district, known for its impressive rose window and soaring bell tower.
4. Escola Massana - A prestigious art school that offers degree programs in fine arts, design, and visual communication.

I do not think the area was specifically planned for the youth, as it is culturally diverse with a diverse population as well.

4. What signs can you see in this neighborhood that explain its nature (stores, bars, public buildings, street art, etc…). Take photos of 5 examples that justify your answer and show symbols of alternative culture in the area.

In the Raval district, there are many bars, stores, public buildings, and street art, as shown below. The are is known for its multicultural and bohemian atmosphere, which is shown in its stores, bars, and art.

5. Conclusions: Why do you think the area of Raval district of Barcelona has become one of the centers of alternative culture in Europe during that period? Why do you think this space have determined people’s actions?

I think the area of the Raval district has become one of the centers of alternative culture in Europe because of its history of immigration and political activism, as well as its affordable rents and bohemian atmosphere. It is also very close to cultural buildings such as CCCB and the MACBA, which attracts creators to that area. In regard to why the space determined people's actions, the area's unique history, architecture, and cultural identity have helped shape the experiences and actions of the people who live, work, and visit there.
